One of the largest marches took place in the history of the world, including tens of millions of Shia Muslims, and they participated in this movement to openly go up against ISIS. By participating in this march they risked their lives by traveling through war-torn areas of combat.
The march included people ages and facets of life. Those who participated made their way to the city of Karbala on Sunday, and Monday last week for the holy day of Arbaeen, which is the ending day of a 40-day period of mourning following Ashura. Ashura is the religious event which memorializes the death of the Prophet Mohammad’s grandson, Imam Hussein.
